From the editor:
Welcome to the fifth issue of Random Acts of Senseless Writing. I feel the need to address an issue before I get started with the news, and that issue is ANTHRAX IS NOT BREAKING UP!!! They are taking some time off right now to address problems with their record label, during which all members will be involved in side projects (see news). After their problems are resolved, Volume 8 will be re-released (see news again). Sure, we would all love for Anthrax to be back on the road, and I am sure the band feels the same way. However, we're going to have to wait.
This reminds me of a few things. People may have their doubts in Anthrax's will to stay together. Well, they have been through numerous line-up changes. They have been burnt more than once by record labels in the past. They've even had their studio burnt down. They have gone through criticism for their clothing and tastes in music that extend beyond metal. And when metal wasn't cool and people were saying metal was "dead," they kept it METAL. Not just metal, but METAL! Volume 8 is Anthrax's strongest album in their 18 year career. This all brings to mind the lyrics to the song "Perpetual Motion":
"The cracks are showing, on my face
I didn't think that I was, that old my story is
I weathered every storm I, pulled it through
Falling by the wayside, I've seen a few
But I never went down, never went down,
I never will
Taken every single blow and countered"
Still caught in a mosh,
Justin DelPrince, editor in chief

Anthrax exam!
1. According to Charlie, Anthrax is looking forward to re-releasing Volume 8 - The Threat is Real! It is unknown at this time what label will release it or when. Hopefully there will be better promotion this time around.
2. (Thanks to Mauricio Hernandez and Mark Crook for this information) As you all hopefully know, Anthrax played Monsters of Rock in Chile back in December. But here's some more of the story behind the show.
Iron Maiden was originally scheduled to be the headliners, but they pulled out two weeks prior to the show. Slayer took their spot, and Anthrax was added to the bill. (Hence the reason we only had short notice.)
Slayer had a problem before the show. None of their equipment arrived! Kerry King borrowed a guitar from Paul. (Both are endorsed by BC Rich.) Tom Araya borrowed a bass from Frank. Jeff Hanneman had to rent a guitar. How typical of Anthrax to be lending their equipment to the less fortunate. heh
This is the correct setlist from the show:

Room For One More
Inside Out
"Old School Medley": Among The living/I'm The Man/A.I.R./Indians

4. Go to http://www.nuclearblast-usa.com/ for a Real Audio clip of the new S.O.D. song "Aren't You Hungry?". You can actually download the clip so you won't have to worry about streaming quality. This song was actually written 13 or 14 years ago, and if you're an "old school" Anthrax fan, you should be able to recognize the intro...
Go to http://www.nuclearblast.de/nba_sound.php3 for a Real Audio clip of the new song "Kill the Assholes." This is a streaming file, however, and cannot be saved.
The cover for S.O.D.'s new album, Bigger than the Devil can be found at: http://www.netexp.net/~delpi/news/bigger_than_devil.jpg (Please note that this is not the final cover, as some changes were made.) This cover was made by Eric from the company fuct. (Fuct's official web page is http://www.fuct.com/ , but it is under construction now.) The album will be released on May 18 through Nuclear Blast Records. On May 4, Nuclear Blast will release a double CD compilation entitled Death is Just The Beginning V, and it will include S.O.D. and dozens of other Nuclear Blast artists.
So far, these are the festival appearances S.O.D. is scheduled for:
May 21-23, Dynamo Open Air Festival (Eindhoven, Netherlands)
June 17-19, Hultsfredsfestivalen (Hultsfred, Sweden)
June 25-27, With Full Force Festival (Leipzig, Germany)
At this time, I don't know the exact date S.O.D. will play at each show.
Here are the correct SOD tour dates for Japan (Thanks to Katz Hirao):

5. Go to http://www.metal-rules.com for a downloadable real audio interview with Paul Crook. In it, he talks about his upcoming solo record, his position in Anthrax, his love of Slayer and much much more.
SLUGGO! The bully's ready to beat up the Jersey Shore!
Paul has formed a new cover band called Sluggo which will include Frankie and Crook vocalist Rek. Right now I can tell you they will probably be starting to perform live in the Jersey area in June, with a full production, smoke, and killer lights. They'll be playing some of the finest metal classics.
Paul's official web page is at http://members.aol.com/ItsSoMetal/
6. Armored Saint now has an official web page at http://www.armoredsaint.com/
The page is off to a good start and includes pictures, news, links, email newsletter and a downloadable throttlebox video. The page says that Armored Saint is signed to Metal Blade Records and will have a new album out in 2000. In case you're a new Anthrax fan and didn't know, Armored Saint was John Bush's band from 1982 to 1992. He joined Anthrax soon after Armored Saint broke up.
